Does physical therapy hurt?
Physical therapy is designed to relieve pain. However, we understand that any exercise or rehab will have times that there will be pain. Our therapists are very good about explaining the difference between ‘normal’ and ‘bad’ pain. Anyone who experiences that ‘bad’ pain here knows that they can tell us, and we will modify treatment to ensure they stay in a safe and pain-free range.
Rest assured that we will do whatever we can to minimize your pain and avoid increasing it during your time in physical therapy. Communication with our therapist will help to reduce any discomfort you may feel during your physical therapy treatments.
We want you to be pain-free and back to your normal activities as soon as possible and will do what we can to prepare you for any discomfort you may experience.
How is my progress measured?
During your initial visit, we will get a baseline objective measure of your range of motion, strength, and functional movement. Then, throughout your plan of care, your therapist will do follow up measurements using goniometers, dynonometers, objective measures, and special tests to get objective data that will help show your range of motion and strength improvements.

If your physician recommends you do physical therapy, you can choose whatever clinic you want to receive care.
Also, thanks to Direct Access laws, you do not need to wait for a referral or a physician to send you to physical therapy. (You may need to contact your insurance company, however, to see if they require a referral to get care).
Simply put, you can access physical therapy without a physician’s referral, and choose whatever clinic you want!

How many sessions are required for PT?
This is a good question, and depends entirely upon your condition and diagnosis. On your first visit, your therapist will determine the frequency and duration of your plan of care.
